A playful little class to help you paint faces without the pressure of perfection
Perhaps you would love to paint faces, but you are not quite sure where to begin. Or perhaps you are stuck in perfection. You start worrying about the eyes, the proportions and whether everything looks “right.”
In Small and Loose, we leave all of that behind.
I will guide you through a simple, playful way of drawing and painting small faces. We will work quickly and loosely, noticing light, dark and the overall shape rather than getting caught in every tiny detail.

Inside the class, you will explore how to:
Quickly sketch small, expressive faces
Use light and dark to give a face shape and character
Let go of small details and perfect proportions
Work in a loose, intuitive and playful way
Keep going when your face looks messy or even ugly
Find more freedom and flow in your art-making
The complete class takes around one hour, so it is easy to fit into an afternoon or a quiet creative moment.
You can pause, replay and return whenever you like.
My process is very unstructured, tactile and yes a little messy too!

Working small changes something.
There is less room to fuss over every detail. You can make a mark, respond to it and keep moving. I will show you how I use light and dark to let a face slowly appear. You might make a few wonky lines. Your face might look a little strange along the way. That is all fine.
This is not about making a perfect face. It is about finding a more relaxed way into the process and discovering that painting faces can actually be fun.

I am Jenny and I am your Creative Guide in this class.
I am a perfectly imperfect, mixed media artist.
Like you, I spent many years pushing aside my creative spark. Then, one day I realised the only way to awaken my inner artist was to just dive in and do it.
